A "strip search" is defined as the inspection of a naked individual without examining body cavities. This procedure is typically performed to ensure that the person is not concealing weapons, contraband, or any items that could pose a risk to themselves or others. The focus is on ensuring safety and security within correctional facilities, which can involve searching an individual for items hidden in clothing or on their person, but it specifically excludes an examination of body cavities.

Understanding this definition is crucial for correctional officers, as it highlights the balance between security measures and the rights of individuals being searched. This knowledge also helps officers to uphold professionalism and adhere to legal standards during such procedures to mitigate potential legal repercussions or violations of rights. Other definitions provided in the options do not accurately encapsulate the essence of a strip search, as they either describe different types of inspections or assessments unrelated to the physical search process.
